10 Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Cookies Your Whole Family Will Actually Eat
If you’ve ever baked a batch of allergy-friendly cookies and watched them crumble apart — or worse, handed one to a kid and had it handed right back — you know the struggle is real. Gluten-free, dairy-free baking has a reputation for being complicated. And honestly, some of it is. But after a lot of trial and error (and a lot of taste-testers in this house), I’ve landed on a collection of cookie recipes that actually work.
I’m also a total cookie snob, which means I tested the heck out of these recipes to make sure they tasted just as good as a “regular” cookie made with gluten and dairy. These aren’t sad substitutes.
They’re soft, chewy, full of flavor, and — most importantly — nobody is going to know they’re missing the gluten and dairy unless you tell them. The kids ask for these on repeat, and I’m happy to make them because I know exactly what’s in them.
Whether you need something quick for an after-school snack, a crowd-pleasing dessert for a holiday cookie exchange, or just a treat you can feel good about sharing with your family, there’s something here for everyone. A few are Paleo, several are nut-free, and one is even egg-free — so no matter what dietary needs you’re working around, you’ve got options.

FAQ
Can I freeze these cookies? Most of these recipes freeze really well. Let the baked cookies cool completely, then store them in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 2–3 months. Thaw at room temperature or warm in the oven for a few minutes.
What gluten-free flour works best for these recipes? Each recipe has been tested with specific flours, so check the individual recipe for details. Many use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend (King Arthur is my favorite!), while the Paleo recipes use almond flour or cassava flour instead.
Are these recipes safe for someone with celiac disease? These recipes are made without gluten-containing ingredients, but if you’re cooking for someone with celiac disease, always check that your specific brands are certified gluten-free and that your kitchen is set up to avoid cross-contamination.
What do I use instead of dairy butter? Most of these recipes use refined coconut oil or a dairy-free butter alternative. Refined coconut oil works great and doesn’t leave a coconut flavor. Check the individual recipe for specifics.
Which cookies are nut-free? ALL of the cookies in this collection are nut-free or have a nut-free option. See recipe notes for nut substitution if it’s a paleo recipe that uses almond flour.
Can I make these ahead of time? Yes! Most of the cookie doughs can be made 1–2 days ahead and kept in the refrigerator, or long term in the freezer. Some even bake better when the dough has had time to chill.
