Whole30 BBQ Chicken Hash

This fast eggless Whole30 & Paleo BBQ Chicken Hash is a nice break from the traditional egg-based breakfast fare. But, it still is a heavy hitter with getting in your nutrients to start the morning, with chicken for protein and several cups of veggies for awesome micronutrients. Keep in mind hashes are not a science – meaning, if you are a little short on something (say carrots), you can leave it out without it ruining the dish. I use Whole30 compliant Cascadian Farm frozen sweet potato chunks (only ingredient = sweet potatoes!) to make this dish come together in 25 minutes. But, if you can’t find compliant frozen potatoes without added sugar (curse you dextrose!), then you can always boil some until just tender and toss those in for this dish instead.


Whole30 BBQ Chicken Hash


  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 green bell pepper chopped
  • 2-3 chicken breasts cut into small chunks
  • 3/4 cup compliant barbecue sauce* I use New Primal or homemade
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups frozen cubed hashbrowns or boiled potatoes
  • Chopped cilantro optional but delicious


  1. Add oil to a large saucepan on stove over medium high heat. Add all the veggies and chicken and saute until onion is translucent and chicken is white on all sides. 

  2. Sprinkle veggie/chicken mixture with spices. 

  3. Combine bbq sauce and water. Pour combined sauce over veggies/chicken. Add potatoes and stir to combine all. 

  4. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer about 15 minutes, until chicken is cooked through and veggies are tender. Top with chopped cilantro and serve.
