Paleo Magic Shell Topping - Gluten-free, dairy-free, tree nut-free easy ice cream topping!

Magic Shell – the chocolate topping that hardens on cold things like ice cream – was my favorite ice cream topping growing up. As my kids and I have been rocking my homemade Paleo Ice Cream it was a must-have to create. I included two ways to create it, depending on what ingredients you have on hand and prefer. Both ways only take 5 minutes and do an amazing job jazzing up ice cream. Hooray for easy childhood favorites remade!

Paleo Magic Shell Topping

Ingredients

Option 1

  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup

Option 2

  • 1/2 cup dairy-free chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Instructions

Option 1

  1. Combine all three ingredients in a bowl or jar, stirring until combined.

  2. Enjoy on top of ice cream or other frozen treats. Hardens within a few seconds of topping.

  3. Store in a sealed jar in the pantry for up to a month.

Option 2

  1. Combine dairy-free chocolate chips and coconut oil in a glass or other microwave-safe jar. Microwave for 1 minute.

  2. Stir well until melted. If still not all the way melted, microwave another 30 seconds if needed.

  3. Enjoy on top of ice cream or other frozen treats. Hardens within a few seconds of topping.

  4. Store in the fridge and microwave in 30 second intervals to reheat until melted.
